I’m not quitting Smash. I’ve resolved to get back into competing in 2022.
I love the intensity. I love playing like your tournament run depends on it. I love the rush I get from playing with stakes. I’m not sure if it’s adrenaline, but it can only be described as a natural high. The satisfaction of that sensation is much greater than the disappointment of a loss.
That is why I play. Playing to get better at the game, while important, can’t be the primary reason I play. Playing only to improve doesn’t work for me; it has to be a side effect of playing for the feeling.
I find that I will have to make a big deal of it in order to motivate myself to return to local tournaments regularly. What, exactly, that means will just have to be shown after the new year.
