Happy Pride Month! While I don’t consider myself part of the LGBTQ+ community, for whatever it’s worth, I do consider myself “borderline queer”. I know I have some identity searching to do, but I’m in no rush to find any labels. That said, this post isn’t about me, it’s about the advent of Pride Month.
Nothing is as important as being your genuine self. The LGBTQ+ community is a place where people are unafraid to show who they are, even in the face of oppression, and that is beautiful. I want to match that kind of energy in my life. I have friends and acquaintances of all sorts, and I love them for who they are. I don’t have to understand how they feel to know that only they know who they really are, and to know that they are valid.
Pride Month is a display of, well, pride, for peoples that have been systematically oppressed since the beginning of history. And if that isn’t inspiring, I don’t know what is.
Update 8/8/21: I now fully consider myself asexual, and as such consider myself part of the LGBTQ+ community even if my orientation is a lack-thereof type.
