Quick late night post.
People like stories. It’s a human nature thing. I’ve really been thinking about this lately. We consume stories for fun. It’s like “living vicariously”. Sharing and hearing stories is just an activity we all do and enjoy.
As with most things with me, this came into my headspace because it has to do with Smash. As a spectator of the game at top level (i.e., the best players in the world), it fascinates me how players build reputations and how stories are told about them within the community. The notion that this one player better when they are losing, and the idea that a different one plays overly aggressive, and this concept that this other guy plays as perfect as humanly possible… They’re all characters in a long story that anyone who keeps up with the game can share with you. Smash as a spectator sport isn’t just who beat who – it’s a whole narrative!
I feel like I have a lot of stories (no, not all of them relate to Smash)… and not enough people to tell them to. Perhaps that’s why I made this blog. An endless page of (formatted!) text is a good enough medium to tell most of my stories.
While I do enjoy writing blogposts, if not only for myself to read, it’s just not the same as telling a story from beginning to end with someone physically near you. I hope I can find people in my life who will listen to my stories, and whose stories I will listen to.
It’s exciting that my whole story is just getting started.
